The small village of Vines Cross is believed to have been named after John Vyne “The Vintner” of Hellingly in 1595.
The village once supported a school, bakers, and village grocer, but now has only a garage and public house.
The garage which was once a forge/blacksmiths still sits alongside Forge Cottage dating back to the 1700′s (only of the oldest properties in Vines Cross). Forge Cottage was recently bought by a developer who has put in planning for a house in the well kept garden which will be alongside the house built on the church.
A thriving community association exists, the VCCA, which has provided a play area for children adjacent to the “Brewers Arms” pub.
